Tell Wadena, Minn. to stop displaying nativity

Wadena nativity

The Wadena, Minn., City Council has set a time to discuss whether or not to display a nativity scene on city property this year, in response to the Freedom From Religion Foundation's objection to the annual display.

Staff Attorney Patrick Elliott sent a letter to the city in January 2015 outlining the constitutional problems with the nativity. The city will consider its options and get input from the public at its Tuesday, Nov. 10 meeting. Possible "solutions" include putting up a secular display alongside the nativity.

TAKE ACTION

Please attend Tuesday's City Council meeting and voice your opposition to the nativity!

When: Tuesday, Nov. 10, 5:00 p.m.
Where: Wadena City Hall, 222 2nd St. SE

TALKING POINTS

Personalize your statement, or feel free to use the wording below. Please be sure to mention it if you are a Wadena citizen.

As a nonreligious person, I urge you not to put up a nativity scene this year in Wadena. Owning and erecting a nativity scene indicates government endorsement of Christianity, which is unconstitutional. It sends a message of exclusion to citizens who are not religious or who belong to non-Christian religions, and a corresponding message to believers that they are political insiders. This is divisive. Please donate the nativity to a private owner and stay neutral on matters of religion.
