FFRF has removed a Ten Commandments poster from the Blytheville High School library in Blytheville, Ark. FFRF received a complaint from a local resident reporting that the Ten Commandments poster was featured prominently near the library checkout station.
FFRF Staff Attorney Patrick Elliott sent a letter on May 28 to Superintendent Richard Atwill explaining why the poster is a problem:
"This Ten Commandments display is a flagrant violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. The religious message of the Ten Commandments is incontrovertible."
Elliott noted that the Supreme court has, "Made clear that such displays in public schools are unconstitutional."
Although Superintendent Atwill responded, "You will have to investigate this matter yourself or have your mole investigate," it's been confirmed that the Ten Commandments poster was removed.
