FFRF cooks up deal with Fla. Wendy’s (April 8, 2013)

Floridian atheists and non-Christians will now receive the same discounts from a Florida Wendy's as the burger restaurant's church-going patrons, thanks to the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

The restaurant staff denied an atheist a 20% discount available every Sunday to patrons who bring in a church bulletin. In response to the discrimination, FFRF Staff Attorney Elizabeth Cavell, on Feb. 21, 2013, contacted the owner of the Wendy's located on 2525 South Monroe Street in Tallahassee.

Cavell noted the church bulletin Sunday discount discriminates against people on the basis of religion and therefore violates civil rights laws. The restaurant's promotions should be available to all customers regardless of religious preference or practice on a non-discriminatory basis, she said.

The restaurant's legal counsel answered Cavell in an April 8 letter, reporting the restaurant had ended the Church Bulletin Sunday marketing promotion.
