Bush: "God Speaks Through Me"

President Bush met with a group of Old Order Amish in a visit to Lancaster county, in which he asked them to vote for him, The Lancaster New Era reported on July 16.

The Amish told the president that not all members of the church vote but they would pray for him," reported Jack Brubaker for the New Era.

"Bush had tears in his eyes when he replied. He said the president needs their prayers. He also said that having a strong belief in God is the only way he can do the job."

The reporter did not attend the meeting, but interviewed Amish who had been present. They quoted the president concluding the private meeting by saying:

"I trust God speaks through me. Without that, I couldn't do my job."
