Steve Yothment

Steve Yothment has been a freethinker for about 10 years. He's been a member of the Atlanta Freethought Society since 1996 and has been an officer for the past 3 years. He's currently the AFS Vice President and editor of Atlanta Freethought News. He has been the AFNews editor for 3 years.

Steve is a Hoosier, i.e., born and raised in Indiana, mostly in the northwest corner of the state. He graduated from Purdue University with a BSEE degree in 1975. He worked for Motorola and Magnavox as an Electrical Engineer and now works for Scientific Atlanta as an Engineering Manager.

Steve was raised (i.e., indoctrinated) in the Roman Catholic religion. Dissatisfied with the Roman Catholic scene, though, he pursued other religious alternatives after graduating college. He's been a Catholic, a Baptist, a Seventh Day Adventist, a "Full Gospel" adherent, a follower of The Way, and even a cult leader (aka "fellowship coordinator") for The Way International. After a lot of investigation, though, he realized that all religion was based on faith, was unprovable, and often harmful to society. Like UGA professor Francis Assaf, he now considers it all "a bunch of hooey!" His favorite title is now "Freethinker".

Steve's other interests are flying (he owns three airplanes, built his own hangar, and has been president of two flying clubs), ham radio (former-president of a ham radio club) and he's a computer enthusiast, spending way too much time on the internet. He lives in Lawrenceville, GA, with Euvyonne, his wife of 12 years, and his dog, Isaac.
