Tonight! Brevard Public School Board Votes on Dangerous Proposal!

FFRF needs your help! The Foundation wrote a letter urging the Brevard Public Schools Board not to adopt "Proposed Board Policy 9700.01" (Special Interest Groups Recruiting Students in the Classroom). The Boy Scouts of America, an organization which blatantly promotes discrimination against nonreligious youths and their families, is behind this misguided policy change. If adopted, the policy will allow special interest groups to enter the classroom to recruit students during instructional time. If the district allows the Boy Scouts to recruit in classrooms, who is next? The Gideons?
Although it advertises itself as a fun youth club open to any boy, Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has a long history of blatant discrimination against nonreligious and gay families and their sons. The BSA national office mandates a religious litmus test, forcing the parents of boys interested in joining to sign a "Declaration of Religious Principles" which must be returned with membership fees. The membership form states, "The Boy Scouts of America maintain that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing his obligation to God."
Board members vote tonight on this proposal so please object immediately, before (or if possible at) tonight's meeting. Remind them of their responsibility to every child in the school district, including gay and nonreligious youth. Tell them not to invite discrimination and proselytizing into the classroom!
