Write Tulsa over Vote to include Creationism at Public Zoo

June 9, 2005

The Tulsa Park and Recreation Board, by a 3-1 vote on Tuesday -- and over the objections of the Tulsa Zoo, approved the addition of a display depicting the Genesis account of God's creation of the world in six days.

Tulsa Mayor Bill LaFortune cast a vote in favor of the unscientific addition. In a letter of complaint faxed and emailed today, the Freedom From Religion Foundation told him:

"The embarrassing dummying-down of science not only places our nation at a great disadvantage internationally, but it harms the developing minds of children. The place for biblical accounts is not a public zoo, but a private home or church."
